The Authority of the Word of God

Concerning God's Word...

John 10
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, YE ARE GODS?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

The Word of God says clearly that when Jesus answered the Jews about whether he was the Son of God or not, the lord turned to the scriptures. He said "is it not written in your law…" when the Jews wanted to stone him for calling himself the Son of God. Jesus points to the scripture. He mentioned two things actually…The Word of God and the scriptures. The Lord called the bible The Word of God, not the word of man. When he called it The Word of God he was saying that the truth revealed in it did not have human origin but is truly the Word of God. He says that the scriptures can not be broken…. Meaning they are eternal, and unbreakable. You see, the Word of God is the revelation of Jesus Christ. When you read the scriptures, when you study them…. You are discovering Jesus. You're not discovering information, history, poetry, philosophy, theology, religion, etc. You are discovering Jesus….

There are sixty-six books in the bible.Thirty-nine in The Old Testament and twenty-seven in The New Testament. The word bible means books. It comes from the Greek word biblia. These books are authored by God Himself and written by forty-four writers over a period of many centuries. Forty-four writers, sixty-six books, the author is the Holy Spirit. Understand that we are commanded to study to show ourselves approved. Every believer is commanded to study the scriptures. Jesus said that they speak of me... He is the revelation in the Word of God… From Genesis to Revelation. I think that fact is one of the greatest discoveries anybody could make. David, under the anointing of the Spirit, wrote in:

Psalm 119
89 For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.

The word of the Lord is settled in heaven forever. This clearly states that the bible is also not the product of time, but of eternity. It contains the eternal mind and council of God. Therefore, when time and the world passes away the mind and council of God revealed through the scriptures will stand forever.

Matthew 24:35. Jesus said that heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. God's word is His mind and council forever. David wrote in Psalm 119...

Psalm 119
160 Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

The bible is true from Genesis 1:1 to the last verse of the book Revelation. The Lord Jesus accepted the absolute truth of God's word and the authority of the scriptures; in that when he was tempted by the devil he did not answer the devil with experience. When Satan came and said "…if you are the Son of God", Jesus could have easily said, "Hey devil, just a few days ago God called me his son." Remember when he was baptized in the river Jordan? Jesus answered with the word of God. For the word of God is the only weapon against the devil. You cannot fight Satan with experience. You'll only fight him with the word of God. Jesus accepted the absolute authority of the scriptures. With every temptation, with everything Satan said the Lord answered with… "it is written". Even Satan accepted the authority of the scriptures, for Satan could not say no. When Jesus said it is written, the devil accepted that.

I find it amazing that Satan accepts the absolute authority of scripture and while many preachers today do not.

Matthew 5
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

A jot in the Hebrew language corresponds to a coma in English. A tittle in the Hebrew language is a curve on a letter. So Jesus is saying that this entire world will pass away before a coma, or even a little curve on a letter of his word will. It's something to think about. A little coma is eternal, and this entire world is not. It speaks of the absolute eternity of the word of God. You see, those that are saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Spirit need to be unshakeable. Because in the coming days, Satan is going to throw at this world, every false doctrine and every lie that has ever been invented in Hell. That movie the DaVinci Code was a satanic lie. Twenty-eight point five percent of all Americans read the book. Almost twenty nine percent of three hundred million people read the lie in America, and there is something worse on the way. If there was ever a time for Christians to be sure and unshakable in the things of God…. I believe it's now.

2 Timothy 3
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

To be a man or woman of God and furnished unto all good works, you have to know that all scripture is given by the inspiration of God.

2 Peter 1
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of
God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

This again says that the author of God's word is not man, but God himself. His word is truth forever. God's word is proven. Both old and new testaments are of equal authority. The New Testament is hidden in the old and the Old Testament is revealed and fulfilled in the new.

2 Peter 3
1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Savior:

So what he is saying is that the word spoken by the prophets and the words spoken by the apostles are equal in authority.

2 Peter 3
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

So here we have clearly stated by Peter under the anointing of the Holy Ghost, that it's only hard to understand by those that are unlearned and unstable. Here we see that the epistles of Paul the Apostle are scripture, and are of equal authority to everything else in the bible. The old and new testaments confirm and complete one another and are the complete and all sufficient revelation of God.

The bible reveals the bible. When you read portions of Genesis they're explained in Romans or Ephesians. A question raised in Revelation is explained in Daniel… The bible reveals itself. When this foundation is laid things will begin to happen…

Hebrews 4:12… the word of God is spirit, life, and sharper than any two edged sword. The word of God will not have any effect on your life unless you turn away from filth. The Holy Spirit (who is Holy may I add) will not place his Holy eternal word in a heart full of filth. Some people lose themselves in television, internet, books, movies for hours… and then read the bible for thirty minutes. Thirty minutes of reading the bible will not penetrate that garbage. Some open the bible out of guilt not hunger. God does not feed the guilty, He feeds the hungry. Opening the bible out of guilt, praying out of guilt afraid to miss heaven… That's the flesh.

The word of God also sharper than any two edged sword. Once it's received truthfully it will begin to divide. A separation will begin to take place in people. Two classes of people, those who love it and receive it, and those that reject it. Be prepared to lose some friends. When the word of God begins to invade your life you're going to offend people. Who will you offend? Those who hate light and love darkness. Even families will split. It will also reveal you to yourself… convicting and cleansing you. It will produce faith as well. But remember the word comes in by the Holy Ghost, and as it impacts your life you begin to live it. Prayer is born out of the Word. People that don't have God's word in their heart can't pray. They try and fall right on there faces.

Matthew 10:34,35 His word is the sword.

May the Spirit of the Lord be with you.
