The Harlem Shake

The Harlem Shake... my wife mentioned it to me a while back. I even heard there was a news story about it. Some kind of dance that got posted on youtube and went viral. So I finally got curious enough about it to see what was going on.

Okay... its just a crazy dance people are doing.

The Harlem Shake is an Internet meme in the form of a video in which a group of people performs a comedy sketch accompanied by a short excerpt from the song "Harlem Shake". As a meme, the video was replicated by many people, using the same concept, and this rapidly led to it becoming viral in early February 2013,[2] with thousands of "Harlem Shake" videos being made and uploaded to YouTube every day at the height of its popularity.[3]

The form of the meme was established in a video uploaded on February 2 by five teenagers from Queensland, Australia known on YouTube as The Sunny Coast Skate.[3][4] The video started a viral trend of people uploading their own "Harlem Shake" videos to YouTube.[5] The teenagers' video was a follow-up to a video by a YouTube comedy vlogger named Filthy Frank[4][6][7] which featured a section where several costumed people danced to the song "Harlem Shake" by Baauer.[8][9]

But then I heard one of the watchers that I listen to occasionally mention the craze, which then led me to the two videos below. When I saw them it actually took a little while for the truth of what I was seeing to sink in. I could not believe it...

These are just two examples of the many youth groups that have been performing the Harlem Shake at their churches. I thought it was just a crazy dance trend until I saw these vids. This is what happens when all you ever hear is love, joy, peace, and encouragement. This is what happens when all the people rise up to play. This spirit slithers in and is quite comfortable never having to hear about judgment, holiness, repentance, or the fear of the Lord.

I believe this to be a judgment upon generations of church youth that have hardened their hearts against the Holy Spirit and have rejected God. In response, after pleading with them for a time God simply takes His hand off of them, and allows them what they desire in their hearts... and of a truth, it is not Him.

I wonder if anyone else out there has noticed that there no longer seem to be any watchers crying aloud in the gates... no more watchmen sounding the alarm from the walls to the mainstream church community within. It feels as if the Lord has gone silent and left the majority of "Christians" to their unrepentance, dead religious clichés, carnal perversions, and rebellion.

Thoughts?

Brother, I cannot help but agree with you. However, even the thought of that is terrifying to me. So many souls, so many people lost, even in "the church". May we pray that God send forth laborers in His vineyard for truly the harvest is great. Jesus said we need to pray for laborers; He knew the times we would face. Dear Lord Jesus, please have mercy on us and prepare us as vessels fit for your use. Fulfill in us Lord the purposes of your coming.

"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified."
